Office Remodeling

I’ve been thinking that is time for me to share with you one of my passions and I’m wondering why it has taken me this long!

The truth is that, if we can build it, refinish it and or restore it, WE’LL DO IT!

Growing up, I used to visit my uncle up in the mountains on a weekly basis. He was a carpenter and an overall handyman who built his home. He had an amazing woodshop that sat on a cliff and smelled delicious! ( I love the smell of wood!). I have fond memories of sitting on the countertop while he worked and I “helped”. I remember feeling like a little adult handing him the tools.

I always admired him and his abilities to build, fix, and create! So it goes without saying that those same qualities I found in my husband. Today, we have a lovely home filled with DIY projects. Not all of them are HGTV-worthy but we built them and they are ours!

This is my Uncle Manuel and the house he built. The house I love and the man who I admired mostly, he was a great influence on me!

Our latest project is my office because as of right now it’s an artistic storage/editing-space/randomness mess!

I’ve already painted the ceilings, and walls and next are baseboards and trim. We are building a wall to wall cabinet and we are also attempting to make our own wood floors because;

  1. Nowadays the cost of laminate or wood flooring is out of control!

  2. I love to make it my own, with my own flare and color preference.

This is the concept

My goal for this project is to create a home office where I feel inspired and relaxed. I need tons of storage but I want it all tucked away! I also want to display my favorite work prints so I need to create a space for them. I’m still trying to figured it all out as I’m not sure if I want to add shelves to the top of the cabinets. If I do, it would be something like this…

What do you think, should I add arch shelves like these?

This is how far we’ve gotten… we still have a ways to go on this journey!

I hope you tag along with me through this series and I look forward to sharing more DIY projects in the near future. Trust me, we have a lot of projects planned ;)!
